It isn't just New York that is worried about the budget House Republicans are currently bandying about, public broadcasting is downright terrified. While NYC would lose half-a-billion in funding under the GOP budget, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting would be completely eliminated.

So it isn't that surprising that broadcasters nationwide are teaming up to try and make sure this doesn't happen. WNET, our local broadcaster, has set up a page with information on how you can help by contacting your local congressmen and you can get a more national take on the issue at 170 Million Americans (also on Facebook, natch).

While normally we'd leave the advocating of public broadcasting to the dread pledge drives this is a serious threat to a major part of the American media environment and—even if the salaries that some NPR executives make causes our eyebrows to rise [pdf]—it deserves to be shot down by the public (170 million of whom use public radio and TV each month).
