A former marine and native Philadelphian was killed this weekend while attempting to thwart a robbery outside his East Flatbush home.

According to the NYPD, Alexander Manning, 52, was found with multiple gunshot wounds at around 10:48 p.m. Sunday night, outside his home at East 52nd Street and Winthrop Street. He was taken to Kings County Hospital and pronounced dead.

Cops say that further investigation revealed Manning was shot by four teenagers who were trying to rob him. He reportedly resisted, and was fatally shot in the chest by one of the muggers. 16-year-old Michael Williams, who cops believe was one of the perpetrators, was also struck by a bullet and sustained a minor gunshot wound; he is in police custody, but has not yet been charged with a crime.

According to the Daily News, Manning served as a marine for eight years.
