If City Council Speaker/prospective mayor Christine Quinn's iffy political allegiances have you feeling a little unsettled, keep in mind that she committed the ultimate flip-flop offense years before making a Gracie Mansion bid: she switched her baseball allegiances from Mets to Yankees after finding out her future wife was a diehard Yankees fan. "YOU CAN'T TRUST ANYONE ANYMORE," weeps the ghost of Johan Santana's pitching arm.

Quinn's treachery was revealed today in a Post article taking a look at all the mayoral candidates' preferred baseball teams. Quinn, who grew up on Long Island, was raised as a Mets fan, but wife Kim Catullo loved the Yankees. "On my third date with Kim—she’s a crazy sports fan—she looked at me square in the eye and said, ‘I’m not willing to go further in this relationship if you’re not a Yankee fan," Quinn told the Post, driving a stake into the chests of thousands of people who really do believe in a world in which the months of September and October are not marked by heartbreak.

As for the other candidates: Joe Lhota, Adolfo Carrión Jr., John Catsimatidis and George McDonald are all Yankees fans, while John Liu, Bill Thompson and Tim Allon root for the Mets. And Public Advocate Bill de Blasio is a Red Sox fan, so feel free to deface his name on the ballot come primary season.
