After a week of saying he merely "regretted" giving everyone the false impression that he been in the shit in Vietnam, Connecticut Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal has bowed to pressure from veterans and apologized. "I have made mistakes and I am sorry," he said in a statement e-mailed to The Hartford Courant. "I truly regret offending anyone. At times when I have sought to honor veterans, I have not been as clear or precise as I should have been about my service in the Marine Corps Reserves." Now that that's settled, his spokesperson tells the AP, "I think he wants to put this behind him." But Joe Davis, a spokesman for the national VFW organization, shot back that Blumenthal "could have gotten all of this behind him last Tuesday." Instead, the guy's campaign is FUBAR.
