Mark "Moose" Musarella, the 48-year-old retired police officer and EMT who got into hot water in 2009 when he posted a picture of strangling victim Caroline Wimmer on his Facebook page, has surrendered his license as part of a plea deal to avoid jail.
As part of his plea the Staten Islander surrendered his license and will perform 200 hours of community service. Musarella was previously fired from his job at Richmond University Medical Center.
In March 2009, Musarella posted a picture of Wimmer's corpse in her home, a violation of Fire Department regulations for emergency medical service workers. According to District Attorney Daniel Donovan the city accepted the plea since it ensured that Musarella would lose his EMT license, which he would not have been required to relinquish if he had been convicted of official misconduct at trial.
Last May, Brooklyn resident Calvin Lawson was convicted for killing Wimmer, over allegations that she'd told his girlfriend, and mother of his children, on MySpace that he was cheating on her with another woman. He was sentenced to the maximum of 25 years to life in prison.
