It's practically summer out there! We are getting a brief break from the cold today as one arctic air mass departs and the next has yet to arrive. For our Wednesday intermission there will be plenty of sun and a high in the mid 30s. That's only ten degrees colder than normal! A westerly breeze will push the wind chill to down near 20 degrees.
The next cold act arrives this evening when a cold front passes through town. The temperature will drop into the teens overnight and only rise to the mid 20s on Thursday. The frontal passage should keep the storm that's brewing over Texas this morning way out to sea as it moves up the East Coast tomorrow, but it will be cloudy with a slight chance of insignificant flakes in the sky.
The abnormally cold weather is expected to continue through Saturday. This month is on pace to be one of the coldest Februarys on record and might wind up as one of the ten coldest of any month ever observed in Central Park.
March comes in like a lamb on Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds and a high in the mid 30s. The next chance for significant weather is the middle of next week. More giddily there is no indication of extreme cold in the extended forecast. It won't be warm, but with highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s on the horizon it looks like we will soon be done with the worst of winter.
