More has come to light about the MTA bus driver who was busted yesterday for using his sexy express bus to woo the ladies on the company clock, and, shockingly, he doesn't have the most sparkling record.
Driver Edward Meehan was arrested for DWI, leaving the scene of an accident, and resisting arrest in Staten Island in 1989, which he later pleaded guilty to. He wasn't hired by the MTA until 1999, but he resigned less than a year later after being questioned about his absenteeism. He was rehired in 2004, and has since racked up 15 other suspensions, for everything from running red lights, speeding, reckless operation, to, in 2008, "gross misconduct." The Transit division tried to fire Meehan, but he appealed and an arbitrator got his punishment reduced to a 25-day suspension.
"It's outrageous that we're putting people's lives in the hands of a person who has driven drunk, resisted arrest and broken every rule in the book," said Councilman James Vacca, chairman of the Transportation Committee. A hearing on Meehan's latest charges was held yesterday, but a decision has yet to be made. Meehan maintains that the woman he met with was "just a friend."
