If you were an escaped prisoner desperately trying to prove your innocence, which local news source would you approach to plead your case? If your first thought was a certain local rag known for its typically classy front pages, then you might want to rethink that plan...since you very well may find yourself back in custody soonafter.

That's what reportedly happened to Thomas Davtian, 27, who was arrested Tuesday in connection with allegedly robbing his girlfriend. Davtian escaped from an interview room at the 61st Precinct station house in Sheepshead Bay when a detective forgot to handcuff him to anything. The Post says that a man claiming to be Davtian called them last night, alleging that the initial robbery charge was a setup by his girlfriend and another man...perhaps a one-armed man?

During the call, Davtian, who initially turned himself in on Tuesday, refused to surrender to police or meet with a Post reporter. A few hours later, Davtian was picked up by police at a friend’s house and brought back to the 61st Precinct, where he was charged in connection with the escape as well as the robbery. It may not be the Post's fault, but next time you find yourself on the lam, we'd definitely recommend calling Scott Templeton first.
