A driver struck and injured a cyclist in a bike lane in Greenwich Village on Wednesday afternoon while fleeing police and going the wrong way, according to the NYPD.

Officials said police were chasing a male suspect on foot near West Third and Mercer streets around 3 p.m. on Wednesday when he jumped into a parked vehicle and drove against traffic on West Third Street, where the bike lane is located.

The suspect hit and injured a 44-year-old man using the bike lane, and then left the scene, police said. The investigation was ongoing as of Thursday morning and there have been no arrests.

The cyclist was taken to Bellevue Hospital and was in stable condition, according to the NYPD.

A spokesperson for the department said it was unclear if the suspect was using his car or stole someone else's during the incident. They did not say why officers were pursuing him.
