A four-alarm fire tore through part of southwest Yonkers late Friday night, damaging multiple buildings and prompting road closures, according to city officials.
The blaze broke out around 160 School St. in the School Street neighborhood and quickly escalated, drawing firefighters from Yonkers and neighboring departments, the Yonkers fire and Police departments said in a series of Facebook updates.
All told, nine apartments were affected and 28 people were displaced as a result of the fire, according to PJ Goldfeder, a spokesperson for Yonkers Fire. Only minor injuries were reported.
Heavy fire activity could be seen across the block as crews worked to contain the blaze, according to ABC7. The outlet said the fire spread rapidly among closely spaced structures and vehicles before additional alarms were called.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Goldfeder said.
