Since the news broke that James Dolan wouldn't be bringing Donnie Walsh back, Knicks fans have needed something to cheer them up. Their first thoughts were that Isiah Thomas, the man who ran the franchise into the ground, would be re-hired. Thankfully that doesn't appear to be the case, though plenty of people think Thomas still has Dolan's ear. While that's good news, Thomas going back to Detroit would be great news.
A report in The Detroit News explains that although Mike Woodson (the former Hawks head coach) is the frontrunner to coach the Pistons, Thomas shouldn't be ruled out. The reason? Thomas's close relationship with the Pistons' General Manager, Joe Dumars. "While Thomas's interest level isn't known, he still feels a strong emotional bond with the team and the city of Detroit," the article states.
If Thomas does go to Detroit, Knicks fans will riot out of pure happiness. But Knicks fans would be overjoyed if Thomas ends up just about anywhere, as long as it's not inside the Garden.
