18 years ago Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa was allegedly shot by one of John Gotti Jr.'s crew members as payback for trashing the don on his radio show [pdf]. To mark the anniversary, Sliwa will be appearing in Gotti Jr.s' old stomping grounds in Little Italy on Father's Day as "King Cuomo II," to parody the Attorney General's gubernatorial bid and mock Cuomo's girlfriend Sandra Lee's controversial lasagna.
Yesterday, Cuomo sought to control the fallout from comments his mother made trashing Lee's lasagna recipe (she makes it with canned tomato soup and cottage cheese). But Sliwa, AKA "King Cuomo II," is here to make sure Lasagnagate doesn't fall down the media's memory hole. He's decreed "that all lasagna cooked in the restaurants of Little Italy and in the tenements and apartments of this historic Italian neighborhood, must be prepared in strict adherence to Sandra Lee's recipe: Tomato soup, Cottage cheese and Apple Cider vinegar must be the key ingredients.
"On hand will be King Cuomo II's Queen, Sandra Lee, and we will be serving her lasagna to passersby in a forced focus group in Cuomolot. If you like Sandra Lee's lasagna, you're welcome to dine in Little Italy on Father's Day. If you don't like it, you'll be exiled in perpetuity." Here's a taste of what awaits: This video from King Cuomo's appearance at the NYGOPCON earlier month starts out funny, then gets kind of boring and longwinded, but you gotta love the town crier.
