A New York City Councilmember from Brooklyn has filed charges of forcibly touching against a man who kissed her without permission in a subway station during a television interview last week.
In an interview with Gothamist on Friday, Inna Vernikov said she decided to file charges upon receiving an anonymous tip about the man’s history of violence.
The unwanted kiss happened while Vernikov was giving an interview at a Brighton Beach subway station. In the video, shared on social media, a man enters the frame, kisses Vernikov’s cheek, and walks away laughing.
“This is a dangerous individual, and I want to at least attempt to make sure that he doesn't do anything to other women,” Vernikov said. She said she identified the man from a photo lineup at the 60th precinct station.
The NYPD said they received a report of the incident and are investigating. Neither Vernikov nor the NYPD provided the name of the suspect.
