A six-year-old boy was killed yesterday in Salem, Connecticut after he was pulled into a wood chipper while helping his father clear out brush. The Hartford Courant reports that Jeffrey Bourgeois became entangled around 8:45 a.m. after he picked up a branch and attempted to load it into the machine. His two older siblings witnessed the incident, which a state policeman called, "a horrible, tragic accident."
The boy's father, Scott Bourgeois, owns a tree removal company and according to a local politician, the family is "well known" in Salem. Jeffrey was a first-grader, but his school was on break this week. The school is open this week for one-on-one and group counseling. and the superintendent said, "We're sort of all in shock. The teachers and the board are quite upset."
