Why are the Boxing Day Blizzard and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade move similar? Because the city has admitted to screwing up its response to both. Last month the city announced that, per Macy's request, starting in 2012 the parade would skip Times Square altogether in favor of the "safer, wider" Sixth Avenue. Which quickly led to a number of businesses in the Square flipped their lid. And the city is really sorry about that!
At a breakfast forum this morning Deputy Mayor Robert Steel said that "It was apparent from the reaction, I believe, that we should have done better job of listening and engaging with all of the constituents from both perspectives,” reports Crain's.
Still, that doesn't mean the parade will be going back to Times Square. “As of now we have a decision, but we're going to meet and listen and see how it goes,” Steel explained.
So basically, yep, the parade will be moving to Sixth Avenue. But maybe after the hoopla has settled down (or after some Times Square businesses write some big checks?) the city will quietly move it back to the crossroads of the world.
