After numerous city buildings were found to have a rash of structural violations, Councilmember Gale Brewer told the Daily News that she will investigate why the Department of Citywide Administrative Services hasn't brought them up to code. "If the city doesn't take care of its buildings," she said, "how can we ask private owners to do it?" Sounds like Mike the Super needs to TiVo Maury and get off the couch so One Police Plaza's emergency exits have dedicated power supplies. You know, in case of an emergency.
Gracie Mansion, Manhattan Criminal and Civil Courts, Bronx Criminal Court, and even the Department of Buildings Building received numerous violations that have yet to be addressed. While we're still waiting on the inspection results for The Franz Kafka Plaza For The Chillingly Absurd, the Rent Stabilization Association rightfully commented that "the city has really stepped up their enforcement on private building owners…but they clearly haven't cared about their own."
Usually when a building receives serious violations, "the owner is required to pay the fine or appear in court," but fines against the city government have gone "unpaid for years." We're sure that this hypocrisy will soon be a thing of the past, like Zubaz and ticket-fixing.
