Dozens of people who had their tickets fixed have been subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury in the city's embarrassing, never-ending ticket-fixing probe, including a higher-up with the New York Yankees. Normally we would cheer this move as a sign of Lady Justice's scales just cold' kicking ass without regard to societal status or class but all of them have been granted immunity for their testimony. Does that also mean they can't use their own testimony to discredit ticket-fixing officers involved in their own DUI cases? All this abuse of law enforcement and the legal system is making us dizzy. Ahhh, Cats in Sinks. That's better.
DNAinfo reports that Yankee's vice president and security chief Sonny Hight, who was caught on tape discussing a ticket that Yankees' head of stadium operations received with a NYPD union trustee, is also scheduled to testify. But he is not expected to go beyond confirming that the voice on the tape is his. In the phone calls, the trustee tells Hight that his colleague should "not do anything with [the summons]," and then asks if he and his wife could catch a Yankees game in the Delta Club, a private box that features a "Private entrance and elevator…In-seat wait service," and "Complimentary preferred parking," which presumably means that you can double park and then later get your ticket fixed.
Up to two dozen NYPD employees and union officials may face criminal charges, and "another several hundred are expected to face NYPD interdisciplinary punishment before the case is over." Meanwhile, front-row seats in the Delta Suite remain $32,800 for the season, or just 22 disappearing tickets.
