Oprah Winfrey has been trying to attract viewers to her new OWN show, Oprah's Next Chapter, and perhaps this weekend's politics-heavy episode will do the trick? The former talk show host with well-documented weight issues sat down with notoriously rotund New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for a discussion of everything from President Obama ("as good a politician as I’ve ever seen") to how he knew his wife was the one (she suggested they go steal some doughnuts) that airs Sunday night and they even talked about being the butt of fat jokes on national TV!
"It didn't bother you?" Winfrey asked about being made fun of for being fat on national TV. "Because let me tell you, when David Letterman was making jokes about me, it bothered me." To which Christie responded, "I think I was girded for it, Oprah, I really do," before adding he had developed "a shell about it."
In their sit down Christie reportedly talks lots about politics both local and national with some disparaging comparisons of congress to local politics in the Garden State. But probably most notably he warned pols (including his pick Mitt) not to underestimate Obama this year: "He is as good a politician as I've ever seen," he said. "He's really good at it. And I think he's very charismatic. And I think he's genuine. I think what he says he believes he believes. That's a very dangerous politician."
Oh, and as for those illicit doughnuts with wife Mary Pat? According to the transcript the AP got its mits on, Christie explains that when they met at the University of Delaware
"She was fun in a different way than I'd ever experienced with anybody I'd ever dated. She was very spontaneous," Christie told Winfrey.
"Spontaneous like?" Winfrey asked.
"Let's go break into the kitchen in the dining hall at college because we smell that they are baking doughnuts for the next morning," he recalled Mary Pat saying. "So let's sneak in and steal some of the doughnuts now."
Nothing like stealing doughnuts to cement a relationship! The full interview airs 9 p.m. on Sunday on OWN, but here's a clip to keep you sated:
