Mohammed Latif, the driver whose cab was hijacked and crashed into a lightpole off Union Square by Michael Findley, said that a night like Saturday night is something that every hack fears. "Every single day when we go to work, we think about coming back home safe or not," he told NBC.
Latif said he hadn't wanted to pick up Findley in the first place because he appeared drunk, but Findley had allegedly assured him that he wouldn't be a nuisance. After a few blocks that proved to not be true, and Latif stopped the car: "I came around to open door for him and he suddenly came out and started beating me." Findley is expected to be arraigned later this week on charges ranging from drunk driving to speeding to robbery. He reportedly suffered a dislocated hip after the crash, but was treated and promptly arrested.
