A woman was struck and killed while trying to cross the Belt Parkway on Monday night, according to police.

Megan Oravsky, 40, was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes near Exit 9A in Sheepshead Bay around 9:20 p.m. when she was hit by a black Volkswagen sedan.

First responders found her unresponsive in the roadway with severe body trauma, according to the NYPD. She was taken to NYU Langone Brooklyn, but could not be saved.

The 24-year-old driver of the Volkswagen stayed on scene, and police said no criminality was involved.

It was unclear why Oravsky was trying to cross the busy roadway at night. Police said she may have been homeless, and said she may have been carrying a large bag of bottles that was found where she was struck.

Oravsky’s last known address was a supportive housing building on Winthrop Street in East Flatbush. Attempts to reach her family members have been unsuccessful so far.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
