Police say they've arrested and charged a man with attempted murder after he fatally stabbed a Brooklyn man and critically injured the man's wife at home Thursday night.

NYPD officers responded to a 911 call around 7:30 p.m. about two people stabbed at East 69th Street and Avenue M in Bergen Beach. Police found 49-year-old Juan Manuel Galicia and his wife, also 49, both with multiple stab wounds, officials said.

The couple was taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where Galicia was pronounced dead. His wife was still in critical condition Friday morning, according to the NYPD.

Police arrested Albert Torres, 35, in Brooklyn Friday and charged him with attempted murder. Officials did not immediately confirm Torres' relationship with the victims but said earlier in the day they were seeking the couple's son-in-law.

There were three homicides and 153 felony assaults in the 63rd Precinct, which includes Bergen Beach and other southeast Brooklyn neighborhoods, this year through Dec. 7, according to police data. That compares to two homicides and 168 felony assaults by the same point last year.

Those crime categories have fallen 21% and risen less than 1%, respectively, citywide since 2024, the data shows.
