Levi Aron's attorneys have alluded that they will use an insanity plea to defend him against the allegations (and his own written and video confessions) that he kidnapped, suffocated, and dismembered 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky. Yesterday, after he spent 20 minutes with the Kletzky family, Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes shrugged off the defense's claims, saying, "Sometimes I wonder about what goes through defense lawyers' minds." Hynes also told the Daily News that he "wanted to make a personal commitment that every resource of this office will be used to make sure the issue is resolved in a way that is appropriate."
Another one of Aron's attorneys, Gerard Marrone, told the Post yesterday that Aron's reported love of karaoke and music stemmed from the voices he heard in his head. "He really likes listening to music, Marrone said, "And he actually admitted to me that he listens to the music very loud to drown out the voices."
Mayor Bloomberg, along with Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, also visited the Kletzky family yesterday and spent 15 minutes with the family as they sat shiva. "I don't know why God sometimes does some things," Bloomberg told the paper. "I think we should—before we go to bed, take a look at our children and recognize how lucky we are to have them. Pray this doesn't happen to us." Kelly told reporters that the investigation was "going slowly," despite the wealth of potential evidence authorities has trucked out of Aron's home. Aron is expected to be indicted this week.
