A Bronx man is facing murder, manslaughter and weapons charges, accused of shooting and killing another man at a public housing complex in the borough Sunday. Police said the incident broke a 12-day streak without a homicide in the city.

Sean Grant, 28, is accused of gunning down Gregory Stewart, 38, around 9 p.m. at a building at NYCHA’s Sotomayor Houses on Watson Avenue in Soundview. According to a criminal complaint from Bronx prosecutors, police took Grant into custody about two blocks away, near the intersection of Rosedale and Westchester avenues, 15 minutes after the incident. He was carrying a loaded 9mm pistol in his pants, the complaint stated.

Police said Grant lived in the building where the shooting occurred, and Stewart lived more than 4 miles away in Wakefield. Officials said the violence stemmed from a dispute related to a shooting earlier this month, but they were still investigating a motive.

Grant appeared before a judge in Bronx Criminal Court on Tuesday morning and was ordered held without bail. His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The fatal shooting ended a record streak without homicides in New York City, tying a similar stretch in 2015, police said.

NYPD data shows shootings in the 43rd Precinct, which includes Soundview, were up 39% this year through Dec. 7, compared to the same point last year. There were 12 homicides in the precinct by that date this year, matching the amount at the same point last year.

Citywide, shootings and homicides have declined 23% and 21%, respectively, since last year. Officials said so far this year the city has had its lowest number of shooting incidents and victims in recorded history.
