Mayor Bloomberg's right hand man is leaving his job at City Hall—so he can work for Bloomberg LP. Deputy Mayor for Government Affairs Kevin Sheekey will return to the Mayor's media company, where he worked from 1997 to 2001, to take a post advising Bloomberg on his acclaimed "philanthropic efforts."

According to the Daily News, Bloomberg had this to say about Sheekey, who will reportedly "oversee government relations/communications" and work to expand the firm's global presence: "Kevin helped lead the way as this Administration advanced our education, sustainability, housing, immigration, and fiscal responsibility agendas ... He has had his hand in just about everything we’ve done over the past four years—and we've been smarter, more strategic, and more successful due to his efforts." Sheekey is taking the same path as former Deputy Mayor Economic Development and Rebuilding Dan Doctoroff, who left City Hall to become president of Bloomberg LP.

Sheekey might be best known for overseeing the 2004 Republican National Convention and fueling rumors that the billionaire mayor would pursue a bid for the presidency in 2008, according to the Atlantic. He will be replaced temporarily by Deputy Mayor for Operations Ed Skyler before newly hired ex-Hillary Clinton strategist (and sweater-wearing music blogger) Howard Wolfson takes the job—a move sure to spark rumors of a possible Bloomberg presidential bid in 2012. For his part, Wolfson issued this Tweet yesterday: "First day in @nycmayorsoffice. Very excited to be here."
