After handing the December 26-27 blizzard miserably, Mayor Bloomberg tried to redeem himself—and build up his snow capital, as Deputy Mayor Stephen Goldsmith might put it—with Tuesday night's snowstorm by sending out droves of snow plows and calling a weather emergency. So what did New Yorkers think? Well, one Queens resident told WCBS 2's Pablo Guzman he was still annoyed with Bloomberg's Bermuda visit during the blizzard, “First off, I think he should have been here. I know he’s entitled to a private life, but I really feel he should have been here, knowing what was coming.”
Bloomberg himself was pretty pleased, telling reporters, "I don't know that I feel redeemed. I feel relieved, I guess is a good word. You always are gonna have another challenge and that's what's wonderful about serving the public and you never know what that challenge is gonna be and hopefully there will be challenges, hopefully we'll meet them but...never gonna be perfect." He added, "The bottomline is the plows did not have to contend with trucks and buses and cars stuck in the middle of the street and that made the job a lot easier."
His constituents will be able to complain about the blizzard and other snow-related issues at community blizzard hearings the City Council is holding in all the boroughs next week and the week after—details here.
