Snowfall and arctic temperatures are in store for the New York and northern New Jersey region this weekend and into next week, meteorologists say.

Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-30s on Saturday and remain there through the weekend, but wind gusts could be as strong as 29 miles per hour on Saturday — with wind chill values as low as 15 degrees.

Sunday will bring a brief reprieve from the strong winds, before a light snow arrives overnight into Monday.

“We do kind of stay in somewhat gusty conditions,” said James Tomasini, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. After the expected snowfall early in the week, temperatures will feel bitterly cold — with wind chill values in the 20s during the day and in the teens at night throughout the week.

Wind gusts next week will go as high as 25 miles per hour on any given day.

“Each day and night will be about 10 degrees colder than what the air temperature is,” Tomasini said of next week.

The NWS is expecting temperatures to drop to the mid to low-20s on Saturday night, before an even colder week ahead. High temperatures are expected to hover around the low to mid-30s for several days and plummet as low as the teens at night, according to the NWS.
