Here's just another example of why most people need another lesson in statistics, or at least just the value of obtaining a wide and varied sample size when conducting a poll. Blog It To Me decided to take a look at the "tastemaking" borough of Brooklyn to see what they're wearing. And apparently for neighborhoods like Bay Ridge and Midwood, it's nothing.
After declaring that the map charts "popular brands neighborhood by neighborhood," BITM explains that they got their data by looking at what Brooklyn's Shop It To Me members were buying, so the sample was skewed from the get go. But according to them, Park Slope keeps it "classic" with brands like Ann Taylor Loft, Williamsburg and Greenpoint mix Gucci with Levi's, and Coney Island is the only neighborhood not to list Marc Jacobs in the top five. And according to their map Coney Island is landlocked? So, how does the other half live? We hope you've at least got some nice-fitting pants. [Via Brokelyn]
