The case of the alleged castrating male model continues. When last we saw Renato Seabra—the Portuguese male model accused of choking, stabbing, castrating with a corkscrew, ramming in the face with a computer monitor and stomping on the head of the gay Portuguese writer Carlos Castro in a Times Square Hotel room last January—his lawyer was mulling the possibility of dragging the case on with a psychiatric defense (while also trying to block prosecutors from using Seabra's confession). Today Seabra came back to court (this time ditching the orange jumper for a snazzy suit his mom bought him) and his lawyer told the judge that... they still haven't decided if they'll go the insanity route.
"For a man charged with murder in the second degree, who's never been charged with anything in his life, he's doing OK," defense lawyer David Touger said of his client. “But that’s under the circumstances.”
Touger also told the court that psychiatrist is due to evaluate Seabra next week, and that their final decision should be ready in three weeks, tops. When that occurs, a judge will also rule if Seabra's confession to police is admissible in court.
Meanwhile, Seabra's mother—who has said she does not believe that her son and Castro were an item—has apparently visiting him three times a week in Bellevue's psychiatric prison ward. And we will say—the suit the alleged killer's mom got him and longer-hair look he's sporting is much more becoming than what he was wearing in past appearances.
