Yesterday, some neighborhoods were dealing with the aftermath of rains and 60 mph winds that swept through their neighborhoods. And luckily the casualties were mostly cars and trees, as WCBS 2 shows, though there were some power outages (downed power lines).
The huge tree that fell in Corona (lower photos) actually hit three cars: The NY Times found that it landed on the Farez family's 1996 GMC Safari - purchased just four months ago - but it actually "slightly damaged" a white sedan and broke the windshield of new 2008 Honda Odyssey owned. Marina Farez told the Times she first thought, "Oh my God. My car! My car is dead!” but she got over her grief and eventually took digital photographs.
The neighbors were annoyed that the city took so long to remove the tree (a silver maple), but the city had to shut off utilities first. And this is how Jason Watkins found out from his dad about their Honda Odyssey: "Two things: there’s no power, and there’s a tree on our car.” Watkins found a silver lining, "“It would have been not funny if anybody got hurt. But to wake up and see your car and there’s a big log in the front seat, that’s funny.”
