Enforcing parking laws is a dangerous job! It seems like we are regularly hearing about yet another officer being attacked for doing their job and writing a ticket. And now here comes another one. A retired New York firefighter is currently in hot water for allegedly attacking a parking agent with a pipe after he'd been ticketed.
Police in Yonkers have charged Robert Karotas with assault, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon after he got a little crazy over a ticket.
The story goes like this: Pissed he'd been ticketed Karotas went to discuss the matter with the officer who wrote the offending piece of paper. And by discuss we mean stand in the street and yell at the guy in his car while flinging a metal pipe around. Eventually, police say, he "smashed it against the car window."
At that point the officer had had enough and wrote Karotas another ticket (this one for blocking traffic). Which of course made the retiree even angrier, leading him to hit the officer with the pipe and smash his ticket scanner to the ground (the officer is fine after being treated for a bruised lip).
And this is why we are happy we don't go around giving people tickets for a living.
