Two women died after they were struck by drivers Saturday night in separate crashes in the Bronx and Brooklyn, police said.
According to NYPD officials, a 56-year-old Toyota driver hit a 78-year-old woman walking north on White Plains Road at East 216th Street in Olinville around 10:30 p.m.
The woman sustained severe head trauma and was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said the driver remained on the scene and there have been no arrests. The victim’s identity was not publicly released as the NYPD worked to notify her family.
Police also said an unknown Chevy driver struck a 32-year-old woman at Lafayette Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bed-Stuy just before midnight.
Emergency medical workers took the woman to Kings County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not immediately released, pending notification of her family.
Officials said the driver left the crash site, traveled east onto Lafayette Avenue and collided with two parked vehicles. The driver then fled their Chevy on foot in an unknown direction. The NYPD said there have been no arrests.
Police data shows traffic deaths were down 20% citywide as of May 18, compared to the same period last year. There were 68 deaths by that point this year, versus 85 in 2024.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
