Police said two men were killed Wednesday night in separate shootings in Hell’s Kitchen and Chelsea — Manhattan neighborhoods where NYPD data shows homicides and shootings are rare.

According to NYPD officials, 30-year-old Bronx resident Marco Reyes was fatally shot on the street on West 42nd Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues, down the block from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, around 10:45 p.m.

Officers found Reyes with a gunshot wound to his head and he was taken in critical condition to Bellevue Hospital, where he died, police said.

Officials said they have not made any arrests in the case, but were looking for a male who was wearing all-black clothing and fled the scene.

Less than two hours earlier, around 9:20 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call for an assault outside a building at NYCHA’s Fulton Houses, on West 17th Street between Ninth and 10th avenues, according to police.

They found 21-year-old Raqiese Cohen, who lived at the building, unconscious with a gunshot wound to his neck, the NYPD said. He was also transported to Bellevue Hospital and pronounced dead there.

No arrests have been made in the killing and officials did not have a description of a suspect.

Homicides and shootings in New York City had fallen to record lows this year through May, the NYPD and Mayor Eric Adams said this week. Wednesday’s incidents marked the first killings in both police precincts where they occured, city data shows.

In the 10th Precinct, which includes Chelsea and Hudson Yards, there were zero homicides by June 1 of last year and only one later in the year. So far in 2025, there has been only one other reported shooting in the precinct.

In the Midtown South Precinct, where the Hell’s Kitchen killing took place, two homicides and three shootings were recorded in 2024 through June 1. The precinct ended the year with four total homicides, according to NYPD data.

This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and has been updated.
