A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Queens on Wednesday afternoon over a dispute that started at his school and ended with a shooting right after he got off a city bus, NYPD officials said.
Sincere Jazmin had just exited an MTA bus at Liberty Avenue and 172nd Street in Jamaica around 2:45 p.m. when a teenager approached and shot him in the chest, according to officials. Police said Thursday they were still investigating what Jazmin and the other teen had argued about.
Surveillance video obtained by PIX11 showed Jazmin walking down the street after being shot. He later sat down on the stoop of a nearby deli and collapsed, police said.
Emergency medical workers took Jazmin to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was shot less than a mile from home, according to the NYPD.
Officials said the suspect fled east on Liberty Avenue wearing a gray mask, a black vest, a gray hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and a black backpack.
Jazmin is the fifth teenager to die from gun violence in New York City so far this year, out of more than 30 people who have been killed in shootings citywide, according to police data compiled by Gothamist.
There was only one homicide through March 23 so far this year in the NYPD’s 103rd Precinct, which includes Jamaica and Hollis, police data shows. That was on par with the amount during the same period last year.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
