A 12-year-old girl was raped at her Brooklyn building Thursday, according to NYPD officials.

Officials said a man attacked the girl as she entered her residence near Morgan and Skillman avenues in East Williamsburg around 5:45 p.m., pushing her to the ground and raping her. He fled the location on foot, according to police.

Emergency medical workers responded to the scene and took the girl in stable condition to a local hospital, where she was recovering, officials said.

Police made an arrest late Friday after saying the assailant was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, black sweatpants a dark backpack and black-and-white sneakers.

NYPD data shows reported rapes in the 94th Precinct, which includes parts of East Williamsburg and Greenpoint, declined by one through Nov. 2 this year, to eight, compared to the same period in 2024. Citywide, they have risen 18% year over year, though officials have said the increase is due at least in part to changes in the legal definition of rape and encouraging people to report sexual assaults.
