Jaromir Jagr needs to stop using illegal sticks. Penalized during overtime for an illegal stick, Jagr then fell victim to a new rule put in for the shootout that requires all participants to have their sticks measured. Jagr stick failed and he was ineligible for the shootout. Without Jagr, the Rangers fell in the shootout and lost to Atlanta 3-2.
The Rangers were their own worst enemies on Wednesday taking several dumb penalties while failing to capitalize on their power play chances. Their failures on the power play have a lot to do with their lack of a defeseman who can run their offense. Right now, everything goes through Jagr and while he is a prolific scorer, a threat on the blueline would make him much better.
Will the Rangers make a move to acquire that type of player before today’s trading deadline? They have sworn that they won’t trade their youth away this year, but with the right player they could make a run deep into the playoffs. Will the temptation of going for it all be too much?
