  • Rangers 5, Flyers 4 (SO): Maybe in the future coach Tom Renney will start backup goaltender Steve Valiquette against the Flyers. He came in relief of Henrik Lundqvist and stopped 17 of 18 shots, then put forth a perfect performance in the shootout. The reserve, who now has three wins against the Flyers this season, stabilized a game that saw both Lundqvist and Flyers goalie Antero Niittymaki yanked by the time two minutes were gone in the second period. Martin Straka, Ryan Callahan, Fredrik Sjostrom and Christian Backman all scored for the Rangers. The last two were deadline pickups.

  • Panthers 1, Islanders 0: For the second time in a week, the Islanders had more than 50 shots on goal but didn't win. This time, they threw 53 shots at Craig Anderson and still got shut out, much to the chagrin of the so-called Core of the Four that was in attendance -- the 17 men who played for all four Stanley Cup winners of the 1980s. Earlier in the week, the islanders put 52 shots on the Penguins and lost. Up next: a home-and-home with the Rangers.

  • Spurs 93, Nets 83: Maybe the Nets will stay at .500 in the post-Jason Kidd era. They're now 3-3. Tony Parker (25 points) was no match for Devin Harris, who joined Vince Carter with 21 points.
