Home to the famed Dia:Beacon and countless galleries, Beacon is a destination worthy of a visit for its art offerings alone. And at just 83 minutes from Grand Central, it couldn't be more convenient for those in need of a cultural fix or just a quick escape from the city.
Indeed, many of Beacon's visitors only drop by the town for a few hours. But for those who want to explore the area beyond the Dia, you're in luck: a multitude of antique shops, restaurants and boutiques are at your fingertips. A couple of choice lodgings are also within walking distance of the train station should you decide to spend the weekend.
Whether you stay for part of a day or a whole weekend, Beacon is the perfect base for New Yorkers looking for a Hudson River Valley escape.
GETTING THERE
Metro-North trains depart with great frequency from Grand Central Station. The ride is 83 minutes, and offpeak tickets are $15.25 one-way; peak, $20.25. Note: If you bring a bike on the train, you'll need a permit.

A room at the Botsford Briar
Book a room with a view at the Botsford Briar. Our favorite detail about this B&B? The fact that a continental breakfast is delivered to your room each morning of your stay. Overall, this stately Victorian is an excellent choice. It's also just a 10-minute walk from the train station. Room rates start at $165/night.
The Roundhouse Beacon at Beacon Falls is a new twenty-three room boutique hotel located on Beacon’s Main Street. Relax by booking a spa treatment at the hotel or simply sit by the fire with a drink in their lounge. If you don’t want to stay, it’s worth a visit for a meal or fancy cocktail at Swifts with windows overlooking the falls. Restaurant. If you stay before April 1st, rates are $219 and there is no two night minimum. After April 1st rates go up to $309 with a two night minimum for a Saturday stay, Call 845.765.8369 for reservations.

A Poppy Burger
The scenic Pollepel Island, home to Bannerman Castle, an abandoned and dilapidated ammunition and military surplus warehouse, is a short boat ride from Beacon. Boats depart from the Beacon Ferry Dock. Don’t forget--pack your camera you can great shots of the ruins. The tours are seasonal, running between May 3rd and Oct 26th.

Enjoy a Meal: Dine in the outdoor garden at Homespun Foods located in the center of town. If you’re in the mood for a burger, you must head to Poppy’s Burgers, where burger toppings include organic fried eggs or chopped jalapenos.
Stay up Late: On the Second Saturday of every month, shops, restaurants and galleries have extended opening hours.
Take a Hike. Or a paddle: The area surrounding Beacon has plenty of options.
