It isn't just the LES that is feeling getting pressure from the law to stop serving booze to minors—it is happening in the Hamptons, too. Just as the NYPD is cracking down on underage drinking in town, police in the Hamptons fired a summer salvo police last weekend arrested six bartenders in three locations for serving booze to minors.
On Saturday night and Sunday morning the Southampton Village PD sent an underage agent into three bars—Nello Summertime, 75 Main and the Southampton Social Club in Southampton—as well the Dream nightclub in Hampton Bays. And surprising nobody whatsoever the agent was able to obtain booze with little to no problem at all except one. He was reportedly "denied entry to the Southampton Social Club, despite repeated attempts."
According to police chief Thomas Cummings the agent was told “to present legitimate identification if asked and not to mislead the bar employees if confronted,” as plainclothes police officer stood nearby to observe. Not that his job took much effort, apparently. A total of six bartenders were arrested that night, three of them at Dream, for the misdemeanor of unlawfully dealing with a child in the first degree.
SLA charges against the venues are expected to be forthcoming. Meanwhile, if television has taught us anything about the Hamptons, there are always house parties filled with booze for the kids to crash?
