In this city, restaurants come and go faster than you can say "sustainable locavore burger." And even though there are great new additions to the culinary landscape popping up every week, you've gotta give kudos to anyone who can stick it out for over a year. With that in mind, we bring you Still Got It, our tribute to establishments that continue to serve mouthwatering meals and drinks long after the buzz has faded—or if the lingering hype is still justified.
We usually think of the Upper East Side as the home to rich people who get their streets plowed quickly rather than a culinary destination, but for anyone in search of a fine specimen of black & white cookie, we recommend Glaser's Bake Shop.
Family run since 1902, and little changed on the inside, the bakery makes classic cookies, breads and cakes on-site, some of which you can see being made right from the counter. Glaser's doesn't discriminate when it comes to baking traditions. Challah bread and rugelah are offered alongside Irish Soda Bread and Linzer tarts. We usually go for a box of cookies by the pound, with everything from moist tri-colors to florentines to crispy butter wafers. They also do a good job of letting folks know what's new on their Facebook page. We can't wait to see what a "Raspberry Chocolate Sprinkle Swirl" is.
