For the first time in its 13 year history in NYC, Sixpoint Brewery will open the doors to its Red Hook facility to provide beer directly to customers. The brewery—which does not have a taproom like the one that's regularly mobbed at Brooklyn Brewery—will be setting up its courtyard to welcome visitors on September 30th in conjunction with a new beer on sale through a brand new app.
Tapping into the robust market for unique beers, Sixpoint launched the beta app that allows beer enthusiasts to purchase limited small batch beers directly from the brewery itself. Those who download the app—available beginning September 22nd—are given access to purchase six packs of the Lil' Raspy Raspberry Berliner Weisse and the Toppen-ish IPA at noon on September 25th, leading up to the opening of the brewery's doors on September 30th.

Sixpoint's new system could revolutionize the way connoisseurs and fledgling beer collectors experience new releases. Heretofore, the system involved waiting hours on a line for the opportunity to sample a brewery's latest creation; the app-based system could be a more egalitarian method by which new beers become available to consumers.
On the day of the event, the brewery will be decking out its courtyard and filling it with food, music and, of course, lots of beer. There won't be any beer available for purchase on site—you'll have to go through the app process for that—but the brewery is promising samples and growler fills so it won't be a completely dry affair. Even folks who haven't downloaded the app will be welcome on the day if you're curious to see what Willy Wonka's up to behind those walls.
Update: Due to high demand for the beers, Sixpoint now says it will be unable to accommodate people who did not purchase the new releases via the app. The brewery is promising new releases coming soon with more opportunities to open their courtyard space.
