It is strange the things that you find yourself nostalgic for. Like, we've never really been big fans of industrial fast food pizza (we'd prefer a pie from L&B, Difara's, Grimaldi's, even Two Boots or Artichoke any day) and yet we have a real fondness for retro pizza television ads—The Noid? We're loath to avoid you. So thank you, Ad Age, for letting us know that Little Caesar's "Pizza, Pizza" guy is coming back to the airwaves.
Yup, the pizza chain is set to launch its first national TV campaign in 15 years (wow, that long?) and has decided to keep their Little Caesar mascot and his famous "pizza, pizza" tag line. And, because you learn something new every day, we gotta admit we had no idea that that line came about to promote a two-for-one-deal. Don't know what we are talking about with all this 'pizza, pizza' nonsense? You lucky child, there is a refresher at the bottom.
As for what the new ads will be like? Sounds like they'll be a little bit "wacky," cause if it ain't broke? For example:
In one TV spot, two teenagers approach their grandfather and say, "Hey, Grandpa, we got this large pizza for five bucks," to which the man responds, "Well, paint me blue and call me Babe."
We still probably won't be going to visit Little Caesars anytime soon—not when there are still so many original pie places to try in NYC—but we're weirdly happy about this news? Are you? Now, if only people would start making good old fashioned jingles again. Anything is better than those celebrity Siri ads Apple has been running!
