The "Hog" Sandwich from Xe May Sandwich: Grilled pork, scallion oil, fried shallots, cilantro, pickled carrots, daikon, cucumber and chili mayo on a white baguette. This sandwich had a great balance of flavors, sauces and the all important baguette. Xe May Sandwich is at 96 St. Marks Place in Manhattan.
Sweet Maine Shrimp Rolls from Red Hook Lobster Pound: Sweet Maine shrimp tossed in a roasted garlic & tarragon mayo and served on a J.J. Nissen split-top bun. Nice, flavorful shrimp, a delicious, warm buttered bun came together for a great sandwich. Not sure if we would get this over a delicious lobster roll though, but maybe! Red Hook Lobster Pound is at 284 Van Brunt Street in Brooklyn.
Handmade Burrata from Anella: Burrata stuffed with tomato jam and garnished with basil salt. The burrata was creamy with the perfect amount of salt and was refreshing in its simplicity and lightness considering some of the heavier offerings some restaurants had. Anella is at 222 Franklin St in Brooklyn.
Tabata Noodle from Tabata Noodle Restaurant: Soybean powder and coconut flavored noodle soup topped with mild spiced chicken stew, cilantro and red onions. The soybean-coconut broth in this dish left a lasting impression on us and the noodles were perfectly chewy—a feat given the number of people in attendance. We wanted more, but knew we had to move onto the other tables. Tabata is at 540 9th Ave in Manhattan.
Country Pâté from Resto: Country pâté with spicy tomato jam with pig ears. Pâté and pig ears?? Yes, please! Resto is at 111 E. 29th St in Manhattan.
