The other day, the Wall Street Journal published an interesting little article titled "Plea To Sbarro: Save The Cheese-Steak Slice." In it, author Joseph Checkler bemoans the decline of the chain's (which filed for bankruptcy in April) 830-calorie Philly cheesesteak-stuffed slice, which he calls "a delicious reminder... that you can get something unique and good at a chain restaurant." Inspired by Checkler's devotion to this grotesque pizza oddity, and the recent brouhaha surrounding Donald Trump and Sarah Palin's trip to Sbarro-esque chain La Famiglia, we took a look at some other pie-related gutbombs around the city.

Portofino's Taco Pizza: Midtown East's Portfino goes multicultural, offering a "taco pizza" topped, inexplicably, with bacon, meatballs, hot cherry peppers, American cheese, sauce, and more cheese.

Vinnie's Greenpoint's Finest:Hipster-hating Williamsburg/Greenpoint slice joint Vinnie's has a variety of food coma-inducing slices, including the demographically cognizant Greenpoint's Finest, which features cheese and potato pierogi, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese and sour cream.

Papa John's Spinach Alfredo: Less gross and more just impressively caloric, fellow chain Papa John's entry is described as "A rich and creamy blend of spinach and garlic Parmesan Alfredo sauce, topped with a delicious combination of grilled all-white chicken and fresh-sliced Roma tomatoes." Don't forget to dip it in their signature garlic-butter sauce!

Artichoke Basille's Crab Slice: Less famous than their namesake artichoke slice but even more gout-friendly is Artichoke's crab slice, which is essentially a piece of focaccia slathered with crab dip that's been mixed with mozzarella cheese. Now go eat some Tums.
