Almost immediately upon opening in DUMBO last year, The Brooklyn Roasting Company on Jay Street became an instant hit among the area office drones. Unlike those Carroll Gardens newcomers, people in the area seem to really enjoy the aroma of fine coffee beans being roasted and brewed, and the lines often stretch out the door. So it's not much of a shocker to learn the roaster/coffeshop is expanding.
According to the Roasting Company's blog:
We’re preparing to triple in size as we knock down walls and expand west toward the river. Designs for the new space are still a work in progress but we’ll certainly be making room for more quality control and production equipment (Agtron color/roast profiling system, valve-top cylindrical steel can seamer, moisture analyzer, heat sealers, etc). The 16” thick yellow pine timbers, giant East-River-facing windows and 15 ft. ceilings combine to make the space solid as a rock and soaring with watery light. Come visit us and see for yourself.
The new expansion will stretch west towards the East River, and we got to see it briefly today (hopefully we'll get some pics soon). All we can say is that it will be massive. And the large windows getting added to the mix will provide lots of sunshine, as well make for a real cozy cup of coffee.
