Restaurateur extraordinaire Danny Meyer is heading downtown this week with the opening of North End Grill, a handsome new Battery Park City restaurant helmed by Top Chef Masters winner and former Tabla chef Floyd Cardoz. Sure is pretty, isn't it?
The restaurant marks Cardoz's turn away from Indian cooking and toward New American, where he'll try his hand at a grilled meat and seafood-centric menu that also boasts an entire section devoted to eggs (!) and burgers made with bacon-shrimp and chicken. It's only open for lunch right now, with plans to start dinner service later this month, when the restaurant gets its liquor license and can unleash its supposedly quite extensive Scotch selection.
The whole thing, with the black-and-white tile and giant saucer lights, is a touch American Psycho-esque, but with its pedigree and prime location in restaurant-deprived BPC, we can pretty much guarantee the place'll be a hit.
