When Motorino mastermind Mathieu Palombino opened his Bowery Diner by The New Museum in January many of our readers were highly critical of the joint by virtue of its prices alone. "$7 FOR A SIDE OF FRIES?" one commenter cried out. "UGHHHH. GO AWAY!" But it didn't—though it did drop the price of fries by a buck. Instead the restaurant, initially open only after 5 p.m., has slowly expanded its hours until last night, when it finally lived up to its promise and started offering 24-hour service. Anybody up for a 4 a.m. $15 cheeseburger?
Basically the restaurant has used its last few months to work though your normal new-restaurant growing pains. Hence the very simple new "After Hours" menu, below. It is basically a combination of the restaurant's other menus. Which means it is still a pretty pricey Diner menu, what with $3 oysters, $14 hamburgers, $10 pancakes, $12 mac 'n' cheese and $17 lobster cocktails. Still, the addition of anything 24-hours in the city is generally a pretty good thing. Especially when it serves booze (until 2 a.m. on weekends, 1 a.m. the rest of the week). And with M. Wells still out of commission it is nice to have another "fancy" diner to kick around.
