pint.jpgWe love it when we see the creativity of spirits mixology applied to beer - within reason of course. While there is a simple purity in a frosty pint of beer, sometimes it’s fun to play around. Our latest beer-tail to add to the collection, the Black and Blue, is case and point. It mixes things up just a little but doesn’t adulterate our brew.

We tried the Black and Blue at the Blue Point Brewery, located in Patchogue in Long Island. The drink is simply a half a pint of their Oatmeal Stout mixed with a half a pint of their Blueberry ale. The reason this combination works so well is the chocolate and coffee notes from the oatmeal stout marry beautifully with the subtle notes of blueberry from the ale. The ale also lightens up the stout so it goes down a little easier than is probably a good idea.

The Black and Blue can be made with any oatmeal stout and blueberry ale, but we’re loyal to Blue Point. If you’ve never had it before it’s worth a try. This pint has punch and it will certainly leave a mark.
