As steak lovers are increasingly aware, it is a very pricey time for top notch red meat these days—which also may be for the best? Still, for those who love a choice cut but don't have the half-Benjamin needed for a New York Strip there are options. Like burgers.

The "high-quality" burger has been a big restaurant trend since the economy started souring and in that arena, the $26 Black Label Burger at Minetta Tavern is arguably the king. But like in Europe, it is just one king among many. Steakhouses in particular have a way with burgers. Just try the one at Peter Luger and you'll see what we mean.

But now the ancient and still awesome Old Homestead steakhouse (over 10 million served!) has gone and changed the game. The Meatpacking staple has been serving quality fancy burgers for ages now (yes, that Kobe beef burger costs $41) but it recently started selling a lunch special that, in terms of fancy dining options, actually gives Jean Georges' famous lunch special a run for its money. And it is available on the weekends for those of us who can't get over there during the week!

So what's the special? For $22 the restaurant is offering a "Burger Diamond" lunch special that includes three mini-burgers (a Kobe burger, a filet mignon burger and a sirloin burger) all ground onsite and served on brioche buns. In addition for your money you get a Caesar salad, homemade tater tots, and either a glass of California chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon or a beer. Well played, Old Homestead, well played.
