Happy St. Patrick's Month everybody! While most people celebrate St. Patrick's Day just once a year on March 17th, New York City has such a large Irish population that we get a St. Paddy parade here each weekend in the month of March. Want to experience a little luck of the Irish? We've got your options right here:
On Saturday, March 3rd, you've got two celebrations to choose from. Out in Rockaway the 37th Annual parade in honor of the patron saint of Ireland starts 12:30 p.m. at Beach 129th Street and Newport Avenue before marching down to Beach 102nd ("just beyond the Irish Circle Pub"). That parade is supposed to be a dry one though, so maybe instead you might enjoy the Hoboken Lepre-Con Pub Crawl which was created this year to protest the end of the New Jersey city's notorious parade.
Then on Sunday, March 4th you can either head to Staten Island for one of our favorite parades (which we insist on calling Staten Paten). The 48th annual SI parade starts at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Avenue and Hart Boulevard in West Brighton and then runs along Forest to Jewett Avenue. If Status Island isn't your thing, though, there is also the option of the 13th Annual St. Pat's For All parade in Queens, which unlike some St. Paddy parades, proudly lets people from all walks of life march. The fun times kick off at 2 p.m. at Skillman Avenue and 47th Street in Sunnyside and end up at Woodside Avenue and 58th Street.
The next weekend most of the Pat's parades are out of town (see: Huntington) but we've still got two parades not far from home on Sunday, March 11. Out in Tuckahoe the Eastchester Irish-American Social Club is holding its 8th annual St. Patrick's Parade starting at 3 p.m.. Then a bit south in the Bronx is the 14th Annual Throggs Neck St. Patrick's Day Parade, which starts at noon at East Tremont and Lafayette Avenue, goes down Tremont to Harding Avenue and then down Harding to Brinsmade Avenue.
Then on Saturday, March 17, comes the biggie: The 251st New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade marches up Manhattan. There will be kilts! However, if you love a parade but can't handle that many "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" shirts—because seriously, St. Patrick's on a Saturday is going to be a drunken nightmare—never fear. NBC will be showing the parade, which starts at 11 a.m., and you can also watch it online. For tips on where to best view the parade in person, though, go here.
And that's not all! After the holiday itself it is Brooklyn's time to shine. On Sunday, March 18, the Park Slope St. Patrick's Day Parade steps off at 1 p.m., presumably (though we haven't confirmed yet) starting as usual from Prospect Park West and 14th Street.
Then, for one last hurrah, Bay Ridge holds its parade on Sunday, March 25 starting at noon at Fourth Avenue and Marine Avenue. The final parade of the season then works its way down Fifth Avenue to 60th Street.
