This girl is neither manic, nor pixie, but we'll let it slide.
Last month The Internet was smitten with Mr. Joey Thompson, who kinda sorta looks like Ryan Gosling and decided to make a PSA about how anyone can look like the actor. We talked to Thompson that day, as the video was going viral, and he promised more. Now he's back with his sequel, and because we feel it wouldn't be the worst if every man is this world channeled Gosling a little bit more, we're passing it along.
The follow-up is called "How to Live Like Ryan Gosling," and keep in mind, this is a much more advanced lesson, so don't hurt yourselves out there. You'll still want to wear your black hoodie, of course, but you'll need to skirt around some big hurdles... like not being famous, not being a millionaire, and not having a sweet scorpion jacket.
We caught up with Thompson this morning, to see what life has been like since his last video went viral.
What's happened since the first Gosling video came out? Since the first Gosling video I've been getting stopped a lot more. I've also been sleeping a lot less. After the first video it seemed like I was in constant motion 24/7 doing interviews, talking to lawyers, and really just planning for the future. The cool thing about all this excitement is that it has allowed me to integrate my friends and family into the mix. They have been able to come along for the ride and I think it's a lot of fun for everyone.
Are you tiring of the Gosling stuff yet, or people saying you do or do not look like him? I'm not tired of the Ryan Gosling stuff yet, but I'm sure I will be sooner than later. The point of the first video was really to show the physical similarities between Ryan Gosling and myself. The second video was made to really space the gap between us. I can't be Ryan Gosling and that's not who I'm trying to be. I never set out to be only a Ryan Gosling impersonator because I think I bring more to the table than that. I thought it would be funny to fail at everything Ryan does in this newest video.
You've had a #JoeyOnEllen Twitter campaign going since day one, any movement on the Ellen front? I have unfortunately heard nothing from Ellen... yet. You never can be sure of how something like this will turn out because everybody wants a piece of Ellen. Does this mean I will stop trying? No, not yet. My instincts tell me it's not quite time to drop this just yet. If it happens that is a life altering experience. If it doesn't happen well then I've had a lot of life altering experiences already, and I'm just lucky to have had so many people behind me.
Have you found your Rachel McAdams yet? Haha, well there is this one girl that is kind of in the picture now... I think. I never know with women anymore. It's an interesting situation to say the least. She's a nice girl so I'm not trying to ruin anything. I'm not in a rush right now and I don't think she is either, so we are taking it slow. We will just see what happens.
Has there been any contact with the Gosling camp yet? Ryan's restaurant, Tagine, actually Tweeted the video. They said, "Does this guy look like Ryan Gosling? What do you think? We prefer the real thing." What I gleaned from that is, "Hey you loser, you don't look like Ryan and you're not as cool." This of course is why I made the second video, I wanted to highlight the fact that I don't think I'm some sweet dude who wears leather jackets and talks like Ryan Gosling.
What else are you working on? Right now we are working on tons of videos with my production company, Dinobrite Productions. It's how I make my living currently, so it's the primary focus of my life. We have had some really cool and exciting projects come our way, so we are having a lot of fun. It's just a good feeling to know that our professional work helps to aid the personal work on the side.
This is all I've been doing since I was 16. I would like to release videos with some kind of regularity, but I'm always a fan of quality over quantity. I really want to make them a treat visually. Fabio [who Thompson runs his production company with] helped edit and shoot this one and he is an artistic mastermind. There is a noticeable quality improvement from the first one.
The big thing here is that I take care of myself. I've been pushing myself to the limit so I need to find a routine that has some semblance of organization or my heart might explode. I said I want to make videos until I'm dead. I just don't want that to be in two months from now because of a caffeine induced heart attack.
